ETX 90 EC Motor Response Is Slow

Hello Everyone -

I hope I am not asking a tired question - I did search the archives but after looking for quite a while and not finding an answer I decided just to post a new question.

When I push the directional arrows on the hand paddle for my ETX 90 EC, sometimes the motors don't respond right away. Sometimes the delay is only for a second, and at other times it may be up to 4 or 5 seconds. Is this normal? there doesn't seem to be any play in the axis and once the mototrs do engage, they work fine. I am running it on rechargeable AA batteries - could that have anything to do with it?

thanks in advance for your time and consideration -

Patrick
