Thanks, Eddie.... I don't use the 9V; use the 4 1.5v AAs instead. I'll check the draw, but it has a regulator on board since it uses 6v to 12v in the circuit (also looks like the handbox applies additional voltage to give it the 2X speed). I plan on making a portable power supply using a marine battery as the source, and wondered if the adapter Meade sells steps down or reduced the current form the battery before it hits the regulator. I'm hoping I don't have to 'sketch out' the circuit to figure it out... :)
