CCD Or 35mm SLR?

I was wondering what some of the major differences in quality do pictures have using a CCD camera or an 35mm? Is one easier than the other? I would also like to possibly connect something to my laptop to capture images. Does anyone have a suggestion on a camera type or model for a Meade 12" lx200GPS telescope. I would like to keep the price under $1000.00 for the camera and autoguider. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a total newcomer to astrophotography.
