I've done more testing and comparing.
Sam's 114EG-DH4 sounds identical to Costo's 4504,
so you can search for discussions about it,
for example on dejanews. There appears to be
consensus that the finder and eyepieces
should be upgraded.

One 4504 entry reported that
a Meade rep claimed it was compatible
with their AutoStar controllers.
I tried an AutoStar #495, as delivered with
Walmart's DS-114AT, and it can run the motors,
but it cannot be configured to recognize
the 114EG-DH4's equatorial mount.

The Starfinder does drive DS-114AT motors,
but has even less configurability.
I also discovered that the Starfinder does
not report azimuth and altitude, which is
a problem for my application, so I am now
uncertain whether I will bother trying to
obtain the #506 PC attachment kit.

More likely, I can flop the equatorial mount
over to behave like AzAlt for the Autostar
#495. Perhaps some other, more expensive,
AutoStar model can drive
the equatorial mount as intended...
