Are we talking about the Meade tube balance kit? It comes with a rail and 3 weights (1, 2, and 3 lbs.).

Have you tried moving the weights? The weights are separately adjustable. You can move them around and hold them with their thumbscrews. They don't have to be clustered together.

You don't have to use all three weights. You can use them alone or in any combination.

Perhaps you don't have enough weight. You can buy an extra 2 lb. weight from Meade dealers. Most people find the 6 lbs that come with the kit to be enough, though.

Any time you change accessories, you can change the weight balance. My 35mm Panoptic, for example, is a lot heavier than my 18mm or 10mm Radians. Or my lighted reticle, for that matter.

You have the goal right. To have the OTA rest level without being locked.
