You need a converter to go from the modular telephone cable to the RS-232 serial port on your PC.

The Meade cable for the LX200GPS includes the modular cable and the converter.

If you use a laptop, as I do for firmware upgrades to the LX200GPS and the SBIG STV, you might need a USB to Serial converter as well. Many newer laptops do not come with a serial port anymore. I use Keyspan High Speed USB to Serial converter for both ASU and STVRemote and it works fine with my SOny Vaio laptop.
