Telescope Choices Need Advice

I currently have a Celstron Nexstar 11 GPS on layaway. Now Meade has dropped the price of their lx200 gps 12 inch to the same as the celestron, $2,995.00. I will get my scope out in about 3 weeks, my only question now is..which one do I choose?? I just moved out of the city into some much darker skies and this is my first scope, so I really need some advice here. I know either scope doesnt offer much portability if i take it somewhere, i know they are both heavy, meade a little more than celestron, but I will eventually build a observatory on my land so i guess i will only lug it to the occasional star party. I guess, between the 2 major brands, which is the best quality,etc.. i know celestron does have fastar going for it, but i know meade has been thought of as number 1 for a reason..so someone please give me some good advice!!! thanks, michael |
