Dots Vs. Images

I have read some reviews on other forums that claim all you can really see with the ETX-90 is white dots about 1/8-inch across and when you get the 125 you can see the planets as bigger dots about 1/4 inch. Some people I talked with claim that you can't see Saturn or Jupiter well with anything less than an LX200 8".

What is the truth? What do you see when you look through the ETX-90 or 125? Is it really just larger dots?
