It sounds stupid when you have an auto alignment program and cant seem to get the EXT to align up correctly.

Like you being a newbie to autostar I set off trying to align the scope with no sucess for a year and no one to help.

What I was doing wrong was allowing the telescope to find a star. It would be say a couple of inches out, so I would undo the locks and manually move it to the location, the same with the second star. Upon searching for moon it went way off.

What did I do wrong,I now know I should have used the electronic controls to move the scope in on the desired star and again for the second. Once this penny had dropped all align,ments are near perfect.

It sounds silly but it is obvious to me now that it knows it is starting from position x (North in UK) and take a offsett each time you have electronically aligned it.

It was so frustrating that even though this message was posted n months ago it might help you.
