Hi Randy;
I hope we can get your son interested to. Lets check a few things. First, a 114MM telescope is usually a reflector. A reflector dosen't have a lens at the front, that would be a refractor. A reflector has a mirror at the bottom when you look down the tube. Check if it's there. Next, many people refer to their eyepieces as lenses. Are you sure he didn't mean it needs a new eyepiece. Did he give you the eyepieces? If all it need is an eyepiece, yeah, it's worth fixing. If it needs a new mirror, a new telescope wouldn't cost much more than a new mirror. Lets clear this up first and take it from there.
