I will be straight forward about this because 90% of the time I hold back on opinions of the "cheaper" end of Meade products.

You could in essence use and enjoy this scope, however, I have always disapproved of their qualities (smaller Meade scopes). Granted, it is a department store scope, but...these Meade type scopes have been a sort of "exception" to the rule in some regards. Sounds to me you have the 5" reflector. Their optics aren't all that bad, it's the rest of the scope I put into question. I will not get into the details concerning overall quality of these smaller Meade scopes, but in a nut shell...you can get better.

Perosnally, if I were in your shoes, I would return it and go shop at Orion. There are several scopes there of the same price that are better built and Orions (www.telescope.com)customer service is a good one. Orion has a Space probe 130mm (5")...but for the price you paid for the Meade you could get a 6" XT Dobsonian from Orion. Anyway, these are my thoughts. Good Luck!!
