I have not had that fast start up noise you wrote about. I usually get a slow start up . I have found most of my troubles have come from balancing the tube on the RA axis. I do that regularly. You might also check the clutch tightness. I check the clutch frequently so I drilled a large hole in the back of the housing to permit access for clutch adjustments (without removing the black plastic housing).

I did have a motor failure and got a new one from Meade. They were very helpful and cooperative. I am attempting now to replace the nylon bearings with roller bearings. If it works I'll drop you a line through the forum.

Let me know if you've had any fix or modification work particularly well.
