Russ, I have had many a 'disagreement' on post's like this on the subject of portability. My personal opinion would be that the LX200 12 is not truly a portable scope. Many do transport this scope and indeed larger scopes but generally you will find this involves a truck and therefore in this context anything could conceivably be defined as portable. My own experience is that if you have to carry the scope yourself for any distance the 70lbs will soon become a major chore. I use an LX10 and have to carry it down a flight of stairs and a further 100 yards to reach my observing site at the bottom of my garden. At perhaps half the weight of the scope you mention this is the least enjoyable part of my hobby I can tell you. If your observing site is close by this may not be such a problem but believe me I would personally do far less observing if the scope weighed 70lbs. Eddie.
