My Dear Richard,

If one understands the reading that you quoted in the way that you are describing and this way of looking at it makes them a better person before God then that is not a real problem because Allah is the most merciful, forgiving, and allah is able to requite the wrong even if it is in one's thoughts.

Only Allah knows the intention(s) of each individual all the time.
