Is not it primitive - to relate accidents to bad/good social behavior? Despite plenty of evidences to contrary?

Accidents happen with all kind of people, and analysing accident you never find "divine" reason for it - it always has physical reason (fire by negligence or arsen, car accident because of speed, slow reaction, wrekless driving, DUI, etc, eartquake because of too high stress in crust, hurricane, tornado, etc....).

Being ancient and not knowing physical phenomena is not excuse to come up with punishing god(s) (simply because there is no room for god(s) in eartquake or in tornado or in driving under intoxication - it is all physical/ chemical/ mathematical phenomena).

Saying "God(s) punished them" is highly primitive understanding of phenomena. Actually it is DENYING the very EXISTENCE of the physical phenomena caused the accident - say, earthquake - because it is physical/mathematical and inserting god(s) anywhere in it makes it completely illogical, sharply contradicting to facts (reality), and ununderstandable. Not to say you have then to explain whole lot more: how god(s) did it, where they were, what physical way they did it, where they got energy, what are they (gods) made of, etc etc.

So, move on from 10th century (when such statements as "God(s) punished them" were proper) to at least 19 century when people already knew that there is no need in god(s) to explain physical events in universe.
