I partially agree with your picture. Sure the first bit of knowledge was certainly something along the lines of "this is good, that is bad", and the whole thing evolved from that. The problem is, if you state that all of our knowledge is founded upon notions of good and bad, you're headed for trouble with a lot of people. Not that I disagree with it, quite the contrary, but the idea that morals have somehow infiltrated human thought at its most basic level, where it goes largely unnoticed, is extremely repellent to a lot of so-called rational people.
