Neither do I.

It can be a spontaneous symmetry breaking (selecting 3 this time and any other number next time false vacuum falls from one state to another).

It can also be settling to 3 dimensions from original infinitely many dimensions due to some unique mathematical property of 3-D space.

It can be a result of intersection of 2 higher dimensional spaces passing via each other (flat 4-D and spherical 4-D, for example, give inflating 3-D sphere at their intersection). In this case next step will be to explain origin of 4-D spaces and why they are of different curvature, and explaining space dynamics.

What do you think? Do you have some other ideas why?
