The thing is, the current "correct" religious belief is always changing with the times, even though the source of belief (Bible, Torah, Quran) stay the same.

The only thing that changes is us.

People used to believe the world was created in six earth-days. Now that science proved them wrong, they believe in six God-Days. People used to believe that the universe was eternal, but not the earth. Now that science proved them wrong, they believe BOTH were created during the creation. People used to believe that Adam and Eve were the first humans on earth (hominids, at least.) Now that science proved them wrong, they desperately claim that Adam and Eve were the first MODERN humans on Earth. People used to believe that God wouldn't let his species go extinct. Now that science proved them wrong, that belief has fizzled. People used to believe that the earth was flat. Now that science proved them wrong, that belief has fizzled. People used to believe that the Second Coming would come more or less immediately after Jesus' ressurection. When they died, they were still waiting. What's keeping him?

Religious beliefs are stretching themselves pretty thin over the ever widening scope of science. Eventually, it won't be able to stretch any more.
