"Do you have kids? When your kid asks you for everything, do you buy him every single thing he wants?"

The thing is, the kid knows his parents exist. A child does not recieve messages by proxy through a church or book. A child does not have to guess at what his parents want based on vague internal feelings. Parents don't hide behind a veil and whisper their "commands" ala the wizard of Oz. If God exists, and he wants us to behave, why not show himself? What's to lose?

I can see your response forming in the air: "God wants us to have faith." Why? If I live my life as well as I can, but have no faith, am I worse than a devout jerk? And believe me, I know plenty of them. Fundamentalists I've known have been the most intolerant, narrow minded people I've ever met. Is that what you want for the world?
