It is just a complexity which amuses many people into saying that "if I can not comprehend it - it ain't work without divine help".

Complex systems (helicopter, life, brain, etc) work on the same fundamental principles (laws) all other systems do - conservations, fundamental forces (gravity, e/magnetism, nuclear) and strictly obey all consequences of those laws (say, like laws of thermodynamics or Newton laws of motion, or chemistry laws). Life, for example, NEVER violates energy conservation law or entropy increasing law or any other physics law.

And as long as energy (from Sun) is flowing into complex system (life), there will be chemical reactions toward minimizing potential energy of mutual positions of electric charges (electrons and ions) - and we call it food digestion, or DNA rerplication, or love (brain chemistry).

No Santa Clause is needed to minimize energy - like charges repell and alike attract.
