Maybe instead of envisioning a balloon, envision an explosion. It's a little more accurate. Back in the 30s, I think, we first started noticing that most every other galaxy we could see was redshifted, that is, moving away from us. It follows, then, that at one point in the past everything in the universe was in the same place. |
