What matters is if we accept atonement. You did read correctly.
As for sin, you might want to discuss it with God. All we really need to know is that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So if you feel that you are an exception to this, I would not be the one to discuss it with because the information I have is that there are no exceptions other than Jesus Christ and people who did not have the ability to sin because they died in infancy, etc.
