Look at it this way: the Universe can be explained without God. Religions are flawed. Scientific theories are a more reliable source of knowledge than religious ones. If God exists, he obviously doesn't want to be found.

That is the knowledge we have. I can, then, assign a (very) approximate probability to God's existence based on this information. Maybe instead of probability I should say "percentage of certainty." That has a better ring to it.
