Hi John,

I agree that there is very little of value from the ancient scriptures. My comment was made in the spirit of Yanniru's idea of assigning percentages to beliefs. I agree strongly with that position.

In the case of ancient scripture, I took your characterization of "absurd" to mean that you took an extreme position, i.e. 0% value, or 100% valueless. I merely wanted to temper that to about 99% valueless -- something less than 100%.

If you find some time on your hands, and are curious enough, you might want to look at an essay of mine titled "My Beliefs about God" in which I made a list of beliefs and percentages much like Yanniru did. You can find it at http://sites.netscape.net/paulmartin1940r/essay082 .
