There Are 2 Kind Of Definitions.

First (most common) is just re-labeling. Say, what is a force? Force is defined as a rate of change of momentum: F = dp/dt. So instead of saying "Time derivative of momentum is 9.8 kg m/sec^2", we just say: force is 9.8 newtons.

When we come to the beginning of re-labeling chain (= to axioms), then we have to use another way of defining - descriptive definition. That is how we define fundamental things (point, line, plane, time, god(s), number(s), etc) - by describing them.

There is no other ways of defining things, as far as I know.
