: Has anyone read "The Emperor's New Mind" or Shadows of the Mind" by Roger Penrose (Hawking's Pal). If so could I get your thought's on them?

My first thuoght is that Penrose was Hawking's Thesis Professor. I'm not sure if they are pals. My second thought is that Penrose seems to have left out self-consciousness in his book. The basic premise of a quantum consciousness is probably correct in my opinion. But to get self-consciousness a kind of split consciousness is needed. Perhaps to two halves of the brain would do. But I suspect that a secondary, background medium capable of sustaining quantum coherence as a reflection of quantum coherence in the brain is what actually exists. By the way, consciousness is the middle ground between god & science.
