Science is incapable of providing a transcendant basis for moral or ethical judgement. Furthermore, it has been wrongfully used as a tool to deny the existence of any such code. Therefore, we are left with these seemingly insoluble dillemmas, such as what is life and where it begins.

To bring this back to my point, it is inevitable that society, deprived of a fixed basis for defining moral judgment, will turn to arbitrary fiat, to decide these sorts of issues.

So you are partly right, there is no black and white. This is why they indoctrinate public school children with what has become known as moral or ethical relativity. That is, there is no right or wrong [indeed, given the paradigm, how can there be] and that the moral judgment takes place within the context of the situation.

Though, this philosophy may "tickle the ears", it
is has led to the inability for one question the atrocities of a Hitler, for example. Who am I to say that is wrong to murder Jews? To do so, one must either play God, or invoke some transcendent moral code.

Which we all know doesn't exist.
