R.T. What do you mean by '3000K snapshot...' Greg: Essentially, the state of the primordial Universe for about 300,000 years after the Big-Bang was such that the movement of photons was inhibited until its expansion allowed it to cool off to 3000 degrees Kelvin, at which time photons became Free to travel at the speed of light at a point known as "last scatter". It is postulated that the present day temperature variations in the 3k radiation environment that is an indication of the Big-Bang's authenticity is a reflection of the primordial universe up until the moment of "last scatter". The dispute between Yanniru and myself stems from his belief that the expansion of the Universe is due to the expansion of space itself while the matter within it just sort of lies at rest, while I believe that the matter is traveling and space is what lies at rest. To make a proper determination for yourself, without entertaining any bias on my part, you should visit the MAP satillite site at http://map.gsfc.nasa.gov/html/big_bang.html until you reach some graphs and an explanation of the primordial universe. This site does suggest support for yanniru's view, but they are scientists and have not yet made any firm commitments, prefering to wait for some evidence. I believe the present day view tends to be somewhat confused because the Hubble Space Telescope at one time determined the Universe to be younger then the stars within it, which is impossible, and people are trying to "fix" this view.
