I find it odd that religious people will thank God for their perceived blessings but they don't blame Him for their problems. Perhaps it's partly because the people who survive tragedy after fervent prayer think God saved them. Those who prayed, but died anyway aren't around to complain about it and claim God killed them. The relatives of the deceased often console themselves with words like: "It was his time to die." As all successful suicides would realize if there were an afterlife, THEY decide when they die, not God.

Why do you think religious people do this?

An important break in my efforts to reason God's existence and lack of attention on my behalf was when I realized that it was up to me whether to commit suicide or not, not up to God, and that my family loved me more than God did, because if they could have they would have tried to stop me from killing myself and would talk to me if I asked them to. If God existed then He could have, but obviously wasn't going to.

Why do you believe in a God who doesn't do anything for us? What has He done for you lately?
