What are the properties of the soul? What experiments have been performed or scientific theories proposed concerning it?

You seem to want to retain some religious ideas (such as an eternal soul or spirit) even though you reject most of the others. Why? If the idea was invented by the same kind of unscientific people who came up with a lot of other false ideas like God, Jesus, resurrection, etc., and if there's no good evidence today for its existence, why believe in the soul? Because it makes you feel good? It may work as psychotherapy, but that doesn't make it true.
