This is distinctly possible. There may have been a religious teacher named Jesus, maybe someone who prayed for people who made remarkable recoveries. Perhaps he claimed to be the Annointed (English) = Messiah (Hebrew) = Christ (Greek). Perhaps he was crucified. This man, however, was not born of a virgin, but came the way everyone in that time period came (future children might be clones, or test tube babies). This man was not from Nazareth since such a place didn't exist yet. He could have been from Bethlehem or Jerusalem or Jericho or many other existing places. This man did not perform the miracles Jesus Christ supposedly performed. This man was not the creator of the Earth or universe or the biological son of the Creator. This man was not resurrected or return to the Earth around 1820 to visit the young man Joseph Smith to tell him to organize the Mormon church.
Probably the Gospel history of Jesus Christ of Nazareth is over 99% made up with less than 1% based on the history of one or more real religious teachers, one perhaps named Jesus. With less than 1% match with real history, the rest being fiction, how can Christians have any confidence in the Gospel writers teachings about life and the afterlife?
