You suggest the amendment only protects my right to practice the religion of my choice but does not prohibit the government from endorsing a religion. Let's suppose your interpretation is correct, and the only significant element of the 1st amendment in regards to religion is that goverment may not intrude on my religion. Well, let me ask, how is this possible if the government is endorsing a specific religion?

If I am a Jew and I am in public school, and this public school paid for with tax dollars endorses the baptist church and we go over scripture from the new testament every morning, are my religious freedoms not being infringed upon?

I do not accept your premise that the 1st amendment only protects my religious freedom but places no restrictions on the goverment. One is not possible without the other.

Ultra Right Wingers like yourself scare me almost as much as ultra Left Wingers that want to trample on the 2nd amendment.

All of this being said, I agree that the left has taken things a little to far with the 1st amendment. No prayer before a football game, no ten commandments in a classroom even it is part of a historical display by a teacher? I mean, it has gone to far. But prayer in public school is definitly an infringment on my rights or anyone elses rights who's religion does not coincide with those prayers. Thank god the courts have agreed with me on this matter. The founders created courts to resolve these differences, and that is just what they are doing.
