What About Diminishing Returns?

What about the issue of "diminishing returns"? What do repeated Earth lives give you that you can't get from one Earth life and subsequent proxy experiences (temporary dream states, holodecks, etc.)?

What about the fact that the ancients did not seriously consider the possibility of living on other Earth-like planets orbiting other stars, but modern believers in reincarnation might? Doesn't that suggest that those who originated the ideas of reincarnation were using human imagination and wishful thinking rather than some kind of transcendental understanding of the universe?

What would you consider a disproof of reincarnation?
