I was postulating the existence of Jesus and assuming for the point of discussion that he was god, as many claim.

But then I pointed out that nothing he ever said was written down by anyone who heard him, consistent with what you wrote above.

Regarding his existence- what I find interesting is the words attributed to him in the New Testament largely contradict the teachings of the church. We can go into that if you wish. But what that suggests to me is that he probably did exist.

Now we could also suppose that the early writers in the second century AD, were still influenced by Judaism, and as the church developed political power, these early teachings were bypassed.

But still my gut feeling is that if he was entirely invention, what he said and how the church turned out would be much more consistent.

Besides he once told me that in his life on earth, he did not place enough emphasis on exercise.
