Most religions make one rather important testable prediction- that you will have an afterlife. We all get to test it. Unfortunately we can for the most part only communicate the results to those who have already tested it.

The one religion that does not believe in afterlife is Judaism.

I do not think religion controls the US at all, except maybe in Utah. But I make it a point to stay away from that state and that state of mind.

I expect to have an afterlife. If I do not, I will not know anyway. Whether or not there is a god, in particular an all-powerful, creator god is a mute question for me. My suspician is that there are beings that are so powerful that humans thought they were gods, like Jesus for example. But my belief is that they are nothing more than what each of could become with enough time and effort, and many, many lifetimes, of course.
