God did appear in the body of Jesus. But nobody wrote down his teachings until generations later. Paul was within one generation, but it is not clear whether paul wrote down the teachings of Jesus or his own.

The best evidence for spirit in the scientific literature is the research on Human Remote Sensing conducted by Stanford Research Institute and published in the Proceedings of the IEEE, I think in the late 1960s. Mitchell, the former astronaut, is one of the authors. Most evidence is anecdotal. Of course, this defines spirit as that which can remote sense. But if remote sensing is possible, then the floodgate of other possibilities opens.
