Alexander:

In building a tower of abstraction, one must start with a foundation, those things that are taken as given: mass, energy, space, time. Everything else can then be defined in terms of these fundamentals. But gradually some scientists have come to believe that another basic ingredient is necessary to make sense of the universe: Information. Admittedly, to all but a handful of these initiates, it sounds impenetrably mysterious, this notion that Information and energy could be somehow intertwined. But by making Information fundamental, one may demystify quantum theory.

To that end, last year, Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Theoretical Astrophysics Group met at the Cherry L. Emerson Center for Scientific Computation. Here, some of the most interesting thinkers in the world offered some of the most arresting new ways to think about physics, about quantum theory, using the inchoate discipline of Information Physics.
