I have for some time been interested in the correlation between creation myths found in scripture and the various cosmologies being developed using astronomy, astrophysics and high energy physics. In my younger days I noted if one interchanged Day 3 and Day 4 in Genesis, one obtained rather good correlation with the broad outlines of evolutionary theory. Postulating that scripture is the word of God, God seems in Genesis to be saying that we should pay attention to science but that we should be willing to interpret scripture broadly rather than literally. We should be willing to use his words creatively and synergistically with science,

My interest became serious when I read the Jewish Kabbalistic, "The Book of Creation", which describes properties of our universe and its creation. They seem to correlate quite well with the broad outlines of string theory. The first section of the book says that the universe is 10 dimensional with 6 of the dimensions rolled up and invisible. It describes how three pairs of dimensions, aligned along three orthogonal axis, roll up with opposite windings; which is an elementary description of 6 dimensional compactification in superstring theory. If we take this book to be scripture, is God telling us to put our faith in 10-D superstring theory? Perhaps this and more.

The second section of this book discusses the role of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet in the creation of the universe. I had difficulty understanding this section in terms of string theory until it occurred to me that the 22 letters might stand for the total number of compactified dimensions in our universe. Add to it our 4-D space-time and you get a 26-D universe, which is the number of dimensions in the original non-supersymmetric string theory. So following our premises, God seems to be saying that both super and non-super string physics was involved in creation.
