'What about an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth' - that was in the old testament, where 'avengers' would be assigned to carry out the vengeance. in the new test we're told to be patient and wait for god to avenge, that jesus paid with his body the 'eyes and teeth' that were due for transgressions, including those we incur willfully and unwillfully. 'The enemy within ourselves is perhaps the greatest enemy of all...' quite true, as sometimes we are ashamed of having blown opportunities, failed altogether, gotten fooled, ie gotten in our own way or allowed a temporary situation of our victimization at another's hand to sabotage our own healing and sense of worth. maybe that's why a few times with such folks jesus simply 'took her hand and lifted her up', or whatever. you know?
