Having just read some of the teachings of Nichiren, especially how the Lotus Sutra is the only complete sutra, and that all other sects are based on less complete sutras, I cannot understand why Nichiren would add to the basic and complete mantra of the lotus sutra.

To quote from an earlier post,

"Myoho-renge-kyo is the Lotus Sutra's title and contains its essential meaning. Nichiren Daishonin added namu (contracted to nam), which comes from Sanskrit..."

I have always been told by Swamis and others, that how you pronounce a mantra is very important to its effectiveness. I would presume then that any even more extensive modifications of the supreme mantra given by the Buddha would border on blasphony. Can anyone resolve this issue for me since its been discussed so thoroughly on this forum?
