Buddhism teaches that each of us is a microcos - a mini cosmos unto ourselves. We exist; we have LIFE. In the same way, the universe is a giant living entity. Buddhism teaches that LIFE is the universe and the universe is a LIFE. Each of us is a living entity just like the universe; we are our own little universe.
A number of Sutras(refers to the Buddha's teachings) have stressed the oneness of our LIves and the universe by using the example of the Human body itself. For instance, the roundness of our heads represents the celestial sphere. Our two eyes correspond to the sun and the moon. The opening and closing our eyes are night and day. The hair on our head represents the twinkling stars. Our eyebrows are the constellation. Another example, is our breath is likened to wind: soft breathing is like a gentle breeze blowing through a valley.. The ragged breathe of someone who is furious is in state of agitation might be likened to a gale or typhoon. As for joints is our body, it is said that we have a total 360- which corresponds roughly to days in a year. Of the major joints, we have twelve, corresponding in the months in a year.
Our late Soka Gakkai 2nd President Josei Toda said:
" We use the use the word "self" (to refer ourselves), but this world actually refers to the universe. When we ask how the Life of the universe is different from the Life of each one of you, the only differences we find are those of your bodies and minds. Your life and that of the universe are the same".
We tend to think of the universe and human beings are separate entities, but Mr. Toda declares that they are identical in that both are entities of Life.
