Purpose.!?

Lets just say that God did create the universe and the laws that Physics (we) obey.
What is the purpose of man. The universe will either contract and all life will be destroyed or the universe will expand forever and in 11 billion years when all the hydrogen gets used up and no more stars are created we (and all other life) will die and become closer and closer to absolute zero.
Would God really create us, let us die, and then make sure everything dies?
One possible reason would be heaven...
But would it really make sense that he would make a race to enter heaven and that be there sole purpose? Why wouldn`t he just make us in heaven and keep us from the evils and temptations of earth? Did he create us simpily to punish us for something we had no control over?
What we do on earth has no effect, no real consequences... we are just an average planet oriting and average star that ordits an average spiral galaxy thats one of a trillion known galaxies.
This would be like me taking 10 years to make an antfarm just right... add the ants... the after a year torch it and everything in it. Then maybe start all over.
What would be the purpose... what would be the goal of God. Someone has to have an opinion on this.
