Life to life karma is the only way to explain your exceptions.

Regarding your expression of how trivial we are. My guess and my hope, which is supported by scripture, is that god is consciousness. So if we look around us for consciousness, as some astronomers now do, we find that consciousness is extremely rare. In fact we are yet to find any outside of the planet we live on.

So that makes us extremely important.
