Immortality is by definition beyond mortality.

Therefore, to be TRULY immortal, we must be un-killable. That is, no one could mortally wound us.

We must be able to survive an atomic blast, a supernova, the total entropy of the universe in the distant future, a bullet from a gun, a stab wound to the heart, having our all of our internal organs removed, and our heads cut off.

This is physically impossible. The only truly immortal state is a spirit, which is beyond all death, because there is nothing to be killed.

Splice genes all you want, we will never be truly immortal.

If you followed the death of Superman saga, even Doomsday was killed by the end of the universe, and he was perfect. ;-) *wink*
