Black Holes were predicted to be a plausible result of Einstein`s Gravitational Theories long before any were actually detected in space. Thus, the nature of Black Holes is consistant with the mathmatical depiction of the infinite collapse of matter whenever a sufficiently large quantity of mass occupies a sufficiently confined area of space.
They are, in fact, what they are reputed to be. :o)
