You have a good chance. You`re not starting from scratch. You`re building on what they have already done. As Isacc Newton said "If I have see farther it is ecause I have stood on the shoulders of giants.

Besides, how do you knoe they`re smarter. It could be that they`re just more knowledgable. There is a vast difference between the two.
