Humans are constantly fighting over natural resources. That is exactly what natural selection is. Human evolution by survival of the fittest will end when peace breaks out. That has also been called the end of history.

However, I am intrigued by your comment that Jesus is disparaging those who do not understand. That's a new wrinkle on Jesus that I had not ever before realized. (I agree you realized it first). It seems to be saying that God does not want people who cannot understand things. And since science has given us the greatest understanding of things, it seems to be saying that the scientifically minded who can understand are the preferred for salvation.
