Doesn't understanding require interpretation?

In fact, if we are reading this document in English, someone has already interpreted it for us from the original language and has, thus, conveyed a bit of their capability (best case), desires (worst case) or something in between. Scholars attempt the former while others tend towards the latter with control over women being a typical "desire."

Knowing this, I see researching the Bible as an excellent opportunity to not only study the situations within it, but also the culture and languages that originally wrote it.

Also interesting is foiling those who take bits and pieces of the Bible to make some point, which immediately appears ludicrous read within context.
