There is an aspect of evolution verified by computer experiment that once genes get to a sufficient level of complexity, they redesign themselves, thereby creating information, without breaking the laws of thermodynamics as energy is lost in the process. Kauffmann of the Sante Fe Institute is the leader of this field. He has used this process to account for punctuated evolution where new forms of life emerge suddenly such as in the Cambrian explosion.
