In one's fleeting time on Earth
one grew one's Self
In a beautiful Shell
Grew a Person of Worth

Inspired against fallacious creed
One could have overlooked one's need:
one's self to bloom and not just read
the argument which ancients pleaded.

Was one vain and drowsy?
Kind and frumpy?
Was the shell all we were?
And did most others not matter?

Ambition and Position
Influence and Affluence
Did one attain the lofty perch
By selling out-- what was it worth?

When one looks back and sees behind
Was one cruel instead of kind
Did one forget the argument
had results too, not mere intent.
